The best way to maximise space in inflight luggage cases is to simply fold clothes rather using expensive vacuum packs or packing cubes, according to consumers magazine Which.
It also says that there is no advantage in rolling clothes, a popular myth, when thinking about using the increasingly ubiquitous space-limited cases
“Head to TikTok and you’ll find video after video of users, raving about the sorcery of compression cubes and how they help them cram more into their bags.
“But when we put these claims for the test we weren’t convinced by these packing methods, we packed for suitcases using compression packing cubes and vacuum roll bags, as well as simply folding or rolling clothing to see which approach fitted the most items in“ said the magazine.
They said that they approach the test are scientifically as possible, packing each bag with exactly the same clothing items in precisely the same order and filled any small spaces left with pairs of socks.
The results were quite clear and surprising. The best way to maximise the contents was to fold them and place one on top of the other, it said.
